Trauma and addiction go hand-in-hand because every addiction eventually causes trauma to our lives. However, we may have suffered trauma that was not related to addiction. A trauma is defined as "something that shouldn't have happened to us but did, or something that should have happened to us but didn't". An example of the first would be molestation. An example of the second would be the absence of a nuclear family for a child brought up in an orphanage. It is important to realize that everyone has been impacted by wounding experiences, but it is certainly obvious that there is a wide range of the degree to which this has happened.
An addiction is defined as a pattern of behaviour that brings negative consequences to one's life, but which a person feels compelled to continue acting out.
Being a family-style church, The ConneXion Christian Community tends to encounter the wounds in people very quickly. We realize that many times these wounds or addictions stand in the way of people developing the kinds of healthy relationships necessary to move on in their personal and family lives. For this reason we are very keen on making help readily available. If you contact us and ask for our "Guide to Dealing with Trauma and Addiction" we will be happy to send it to you free of charge.
